FAMOUS ARTISTSabina Tupan

“I find art to be simply a state of being, it’s the way some of us choose to live our lives; whether one is involved in the process of making or just can’t stay away from being around it – to consume it. Either way, I believe it to be a quite spectacular way of spending your day to day because, though art, possibilities tend to become endless in those rigid moments of life.
Art for me is escapism, it’s a tool for manipulating time- I can stretch it, colour it, melt it, go back in the past and change a narrative or even curve future perspectives.
Art for me is telling stories, the ones I choose while in waking life the narrative is pretty fixed.
Art for me is up close and personal and, yet again, simply a state of being.”

Sabina Tupan

In her 11 years of activity, Sabina TUPAN proves that she is a complex artist. Approaching multiple media of artistic expression, painting, drawing, collage, video, and sculpture, Sabina TUPAN joins the new generation of mixed media artists.

Passionate about feminist ideology, female anatomy/sexuality, and the theatrical surrealism of everyday life, the artist tells stories from her life using unconventional narrative tools, using an experimental and childish aesthetic in a tragic-comic way.

Lostalgae”, 2014

Director: Sabina Tupan

Cast: Cornelia Bardasu, Sabina Tupan

Sound: Sabina Tupan

Lostalgae is based on a conversation between the artist and her grandmother. The dialog takes place in two locations: the decayed staged representation of the Romanian bedroom and the documentation taken of Mamaie (meaning grandmother in Romanian) at her home. The unfolding sea ambient coming out of the bottle is a result of nostalgia but also the creation of a space where the fear of losing each other is just a mere fantasy.

* This project was awarded the Arta la intrare Award of Galateca Gallery (Bucharest, Romania), as part of the Damp Journal Solo Show (Bucharest, Romania), exhibited at the Penarth Pier Pavilion (Penarth, Wales), Hers; me, Tad Galery (Denton, Texas)- Curated by Araya Vivorakij
and the Plan. Open. Neo craft Exhibition, Arebyte Gallery (London, UK), Curator: Caroline Jane Harris.
